so a few weeks ago i started getting questioned about a local singing competition. our local Fox station was holding auditions to win a two-night stay in Chicago and a front of the line pass to audition for The X-Factor, which is Simon Cowell’s new show. at first i didn’t think too much about it. but after several people had asked, including my mother…and i found out that the auditions were being held in the facility that my mother runs…i decided to go ahead and audition!
who knows right?!?
i showed up and was given my instructions for the auditions, along with three other singers. then off we went into a room to audition in front of three judges. i was number 1063. i sang “you raise me up” by Josh Groban. then i stuck around for a couple more auditions and headed home.
the next day i got a phone call asking me if i had sung the night before, to which i said, “yes”. then i was informed that i had in fact won the 30+ age division. i was asked if the trip on 4/26 – 4/27 would work for me and i said i would make it work. and it worked!
so i’m here in Chicago, sitting outside at a St. Arbucks (go figure) with my beautiful wife. we visited the site for auditions tomorrow and did a little bit of shopping. it’s been fun to see all of the wristbands for tomorrow’s auditions. i can’t wait to see how many people get crammed in the Sears Centre Arena!
my goal is to have fun…share the gift of music that God has given me…enjoy some time away with my wife…have more fun…and maybe even win $5 MILLLION…
who knows right?!?

God has truly blessed you with a great talent! Can’t wait to hear what He does in and through you at this competition! Good luck and share your winnings when you get $5 million!
Yay!! We’ll be praying for you to have calm and a great testimony. You never know where God will take this! I miss hearing you and your sister sing!
You know I’ve always been a fan, and believed in you. Can’t wait to see how God will use you in the future, or who he brings across your path to share the love of Jesus with. You’ve been blessed, and are a blessing to many. Looking forward to you sharing your experience with us. Love & Blessings to you, Kasey, and the rest of the family.
It started on Saturday, “Are you Jon McKanna’s sister? Has he gone to Chicago yet?”
Praying for you. I don’t have a clue what will happen but, I’m thankful you are going in with a good attitude and to just have fun. No matter what happens…you are blessed with a gift directly from the Creator of the world and your salvation is worth way more than $5 million!
I’m sure you’ll do great! No wonder you won in Lima- you sing that song beautifully!! I have the wedding video to prove it
We’re praying for you, and looking forward to saying, “we knew him before he was a millionaire”
Got a text to check the latest on your website. Well, well, well…..isn’t God full of surprises? I’m thinking this is a win-win-win situation. In Chicago, away from work, with your beautiful best friend, opportunity knocking all around for you to minister and be ministered to…..may God open up the heavens for you and fill your heart with a new song of appreciation. Be encouraged. God’s got some good things in store for you. Jeremiah 29:11 Love, the MacDonalds aka groupies
Go Jon, Go!!!
When you make it on to X-Factor, I’ll be able to say, “THAT guy sang at my wedding!” The Paynes love you and look forward to seeing what God has for you! Thank you for always being faithful to Him and being an awesome testimony for His glory! Even if you don’t make it on national TV, God will still use you in Chicago, I’m sure!
We’ve been praying for you & look forward to reading all about it, on the blog, of course, because we are the only people left on the planet not on facebook.
Very curious about the spandex tweet!?
