lessons learned from a shaved head…part two…

leading-the-source

sooo last week i did a post on this same topic…and today in am going to continue on with it…shaving your head is a pretty big thing, especially if you’ve never done it…and if you don’t think so, go ahead give it a try tonight…you might just change your mind…for me it’s been a great thing!!!

i love my new due…i have a lot more time in the mornings…and a lot less money spent on hair gel and haircuts…hats don’t mess up my hair anymore…neither does the wind or the rain…although it can be cold at times…it’s awesome!!!

not only that it has actually taught me some things…

now that i’m used to my hair, i’ve been able to get into a routine of weekly maintenance…i give it a fresh trim every saturday because i don’t like to let the fuzzz grow too long…i might even start doing it every day, because it grows fast…and if i don’t keep up with it…

it doesn’t look real good!!!

it’s the same way with sin…i can get rid of it…but if i don’t do some routine maintenance in my life…if i’m not in the word and in conversation with God on a regular basis…the sin is going to come right back around…it’s not going to take real long either…all of the sudden…

it doesn’t look real good!!!

this is something that i learned the hard way…i didn’t think that reading God’s word and prayer were really all that important…i grew up in church and had heard it all before…i knew what i was supposed to do and how i was supposed to look…NO big deal!?!

i found out the hard way…it is a BIG DEAL…this passage says alot about that…i NEED God to get me through each day moment…if not…

it doesn’t look real good!!!

sooo, how are you doing with the areas of maintenance in your life??? do you see how they are a BIG DEAL??? i hope so!!!

sooo here we go again…this is another post submitted as a part of the craziness over on fred’s blog…it’s a weekly hot spot for worship leaders to blog about what all happened in their weekend services…go check it out!!!

this post is in regards to the happenings of the source this past weekend…so here we go…

1. tell the world…by hillsong united

then we had our video announcements and i did a welcome/prayer time…

2. marvelous light…by charlie hall

3. reign in us…by starfield

next came our offering set up and introduction of our faith promise weekend…this weekend is set aside each year for missions giving…

4. go tell it…by lee mcderment

then we had our weekly coffee break…and the video message was given by our guest speaker, doug carter…during this video feed our head pastor also came up and set up a missions video and set up the pledge cards…

5. set the world on fire…by britt nicole (done with a click track and video put together by our staff)

WOW…time change for us here in ohio, sooo we lost an hour of sleep…in addition to that we had a torrential downpour for most of the day sunday…that being said the numbers were down as was the energy…i made a coffee run early sunday and brought in coffee for everyone, in an effort to counter the loss of sleep…

the service went well though…with a guest speaker and extra videos, i wasn’t sure how things were going to work out…but God is still God and worked things out…i have gotten numerous compliments on “go tell it”…GREAT tune by lee mcderment, worship leader at newspring…you can purchase the song on i-tunes…

all things considered, it was a good week in the source…i was coming back from a week off…it was great to be back and leading…

sooo there you have it…

sunday setlists…take twenty-six…

sooo, recently i decided that it was time to get out the clippers…i’ve been thinking about it and thinking about it…but i waited until after all the Christmas pics were taken, just in case my wife was not wild about the new look…plus there would be enough time to grow it back before our son is born in april…it was all well thought out…and i did it a little over a month ago…

i got rid of it!!!

at first it took a little getting used to…even for me…especially when i would walk by a mirror…i would find myself standing there staring…and laughing…it felt really funny at first too!!!

i have enjoyed seeing the reactions when people see me for the first time…some have laughed or made witty comments…some have just stared and shook their heads…others have just wanted to rub my head…and some actually like it…but regardless of the category, everyone had to do a double take…no one recognized me…but little miss molly had the best reaction…”crazy hair daddy”…and she would try to fix it for me…

there was some initial shock…but it was worth it!!!

sooo, i’m sitting at st. arbucks this morning…minding my own business…writing in my prayer journal and listening to the people who are coming and going…and it hit me…SMACK in the shaved head…there was a time when i was in over my head with sin…i had only one place to turn and that was to God…and i had to get rid of some things in my life…i had to get rid of the sin…

there was an initial shock…to me and to those around me…some where doing double takes as they found out what my life was really like…some were shaking their heads…some were laughing and making witty comments…

but if i wanted to be right with God and those around me…if i wanted to be the man that God wanted me to be…i had to deal with the sin in my life…i had to get rid of it…and so i did just that…

i got rid of it!!!

to this day i still have things that i get rid of…i ask God every day to show me what there is in my life that i need to confess and get rid off…what about you…is there something that God is telling you to get rid of??? is there something that is holding you back from being who God has for you to be???

oh there may be some initial shock…but it’s worth it!!!

so get rid of it!!!

lessons learned from a shaved head…part one…

i didn’t think twice!!!

sooo, this past weekend i had NOOO responsibilities at the church…first time in months…and it was great!!!

sunday morning came and i got to sleep in…i didn’t get up until the time that i would normally be leaving the house for church…and extra hour and a half than normal…and molly slept in too!!!

when molly woke up she had one crazy bark and a fever…sooo daddy stayed home with molly all day  and night…i didn’t go to our journey community or anything…she was CRANKY and took a lot more attention than normal…but  she did want to cuddle and be held a lot more than normal…which was nice!!!

yesterday…molly was still sick and fevered…i went in to work early and got things around in the office, so that i could go back home and stay with her…and i did just that…i headed back home and hung out with molly all day…again…(not to mention i got my final week of homework done, did a little laundry, exercised, and got dinner ready during her nap)…

but something has really hit me this morning…molly has been CRANKY…no doubt about that…she doesn’t feel good, so who can blame her…she’s also taking a lot more time, energy, and patience to care for…i had to wipe snot every two minutes and put up with the kicking and screaming each time i did…i had to constantly put up with short lived tantrums and crying…i had to follow here and see what she was going to be throwing next, and hope it wouldn’t break(she does have a good arm)!!!

but…

i didn’t think twice!!!

i was more than willing to stay home and care for my little girl!!!

God is the same way…He seems to care for His children when no one else would want to…it doesn’t matter how sick we are…it doesn’t matter how cranky we are…He is always ready to pick us up and hold us…His love is unconditional…and you know what…

He doesn’t think twice!!!
