deepest awe…

sooo, in the past couple weeks i have really been sitting and chewing on psalm 5…and i’ve been confused by some things…i’ve been humored by some things…and i’ve been challenged by some things!!!

david comes before God is a very bold, and what appears to me to be emotional, manner…he is demanding that God hear him and help him…then he goes into a short time of reminding God of His nature and the things that He would stand against… and he says this in verse 6…

You will destroy those who tell lies. The Lord detests murderers and deceivers. (NLT)

i was really challenged by the fact that david seems to be saying that liars are worse than murderers…or at least that God has a stronger dislike for them…i’ve had a couple great discussions about this verse with people in the last couple weeks…i would love to hear your take on it all…but one thing that was mentioned in both of my discussions, was the impact of telling lies…it can cause much greater damage…it can cause much longer lasting damage…and more often than not it leads to more and more lies…

then i love what happens next…david acknowledges the fact that he is nothing without God…i think he is remembering the lies and the murder that he took part in…but he is telling us what God has done in his life…he’s telling us what it causes him to do…verse 7…

because of Your unfailing love, i can enter Your house; i will worship at your Temple with deepest awe. (NLT)

sooo, i was AM extremely challenged by this…how often to i really take the time to remember what God has done in my life…and when i do actually do that…how often does it cause me to worship Him…and not just worship, but worship with deepest awe…i mean…

DEEPEST AWE

this past sunday i was there…i was in awe of what God was doing in the source…i was in awe of what God allows me to be a part of each and every week…we didn’t do anything new…no tricks or off the wall things to bring people in…there was nothing done that we could take credit for or really pinpoint for that matter…people just came and God’s presence was evident…He was at work…and all i could do was soak it all in and smile…i was worshiping Him with…

deepest awe…

what is it that causes you to worship this way??? what reminds you of Who God is??? what has God done in your life to cause you to worship Him with…

deepest awe…

Deepest awe is such a wonderful description of how we should worship God. My kids, the beauty of Creation, God moving in my life…these things remind me of who God is. God is moving in my heart and life each day. He is showing that my past and the things and places I’ve been are all for a reason. My history is apart of His master plan for my life. There is no plan B…just His perfect plan.

Okay, so here is my two cents worth…Would you agree that if you sin, you are sinning? Are there “shades” of sinning? Does God believe that there are shades of sinning? This is an interesting topic for me to. One that I have had with others as well. If one believes that a sin, is a sin, is a sin, then there really are no shades of sin. One sin is not worse than the other. We here on earth may make that distinction, but I am not sure that God does. Then again, I throw this out there – “Or does He?” I need to go and look over Psalm 5. Thanks for the thought.

@michael – i would agree that if you sin, you are sinning…but at the same time, there are sins that bear different consequences…for instance some sins are also legal matters and could have immediate consequences…

for God the result or outcome of sin would be the same no matter what…it is something that cost Him His Son…
