sooo, now that our country is in such “desperate times” financially…which is sooo not true when looking from the perspective of those in other countries…anywho…not only do you have to prepay for your gas…you have to prepay in advance??? fortunately i was able to do that right at the pump and did not have to do sooo weeks in advance…

this was on the pump last night as i was filling up on the way home…it struck me as a funny…i had a long day!!!
Those stickers have always been on there, for when you’re paying with cash. At least around here. Did that apply to when using your check or credit card??
And for some people, these are desperate times.
pre – meaning come before something…so by saying prepay, there is no need for the word advance…they’re telling us twice…was my point…
desperate here means something so different than desperate elsewhere, specifically third world countries…we have access to clean water, food, and shelter each day…even for those in our country who are left without homes or jobs right now…that can’t be said of people in other countries…
Oh, ha ha! I missed that the 1st time
.
I definitely agree that desperate here means something completely different in other places. However, pain and trial that someone is facing whether in a 3rd world country or in the richest country of the world is still pain. It’s all pain and to the person experiencing it, it’s their pain. I used to downplay when someone was having a hard time, say financially, thinking, “you really have no idea” after all I’d seen living in the D.R. But the reality is that it is their reality. When you never have something (ie. 3rd world), that is its own crisis. When you have all you need/want, then suddenly don’t (ie. loss of job, losing home) it’s a different kind of crisis. We should have compassion on both. Just my 2 cents.
it’s not that i don’t have compassion…that’s why i serve in a ministry every month reaching out to the families in our community…that’s why i give to my church and other organizations that are serving those in crisis as well…
however…in my line of work i see where 75% or more of the people in crisis, CHOOSE to be in crisis…they spend the money they do have on sooo many things that are not needed…they make bad decision after bad decision living for themselves and for a moment, rather than for their families…
i still have compassion for these people…i still do what i can to point them in the right direction…i refer them to others who will do the same…but not everyone wants to get out of that crisis and take responsibility for themselves…
I’m not saying you’re not compassionate… And I agree, many of peoples’ problems stem from their own choices, but no one is perfect. Jesus still had compassion on people that made bad choices (ie. adulterous woman). I’m thankful Jesus has had compassion on me through many bad choices I have made over the years. It’s not to say there weren’t consequences, but Jesus still had mercy.
i totally agree…
