sooo, i wanted to follow up a little bit on the whole letting go thing…i started studying through proverbs this week…not for the first time, but for a needed refresher…and as i got to chapter 4 there were four verses that stuck out to me and i have been really chewing on them for a couple days now…
10 My child, listen to me and do as I say,
and you will have a long, good life.
11 I will teach you wisdom’s ways
and lead you in straight paths.
12 When you walk, you won’t be held back;
when you run, you won’t stumble.
13 Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go.
Guard them, for they are the key to life.
what hit me is that we are still going to be taking hold of something…just like molly takes hold of things when she walks…but we take hold of God’s instructions…we do what He has told us to do…we don’t hold on to our opinion…our desires…our comfort…
and when we do this…we won’t be held back…we won’t stumble…
i stumble!!! way too often!!! and when i stumble it’s because i’m holding on to the wrong things…and just like molly, i’m holding on with both hands…so if i’m holding on to the wrong thing with both hands…i can’t hold on to God’s instructions…
what do you think??? what sticks out to you in those four verses???
when you walk…

“Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go.
Guard them, for they are the key to life.”
For me it’s that we are to take hold of His instruction, not let go and to Guard them. We need to be ready at all times when it comes to guarding our hearts and minds…to keep thim clean and focused on God and His Word.
I agree with Jennifer… “Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life.” If we listen to what He says, learn from the wisdom provided, walk that straight line, then we have taken hold of his instructions. We will fail from time to time – yes… will we stumble and fall – yes. But, if we guard them close to our heart, they are the key to life…. they are the key to heaven…they are the key to Jesus. Cool… thks.
When I think of taking hold of God, I think of Peter as he stepped out of the boot, then took his eyes of of Jesus. The part that gets missed, is that Peter reached out and Christ took hold of Peter and brought him back to the surface. Then they walked back to the boat. So, even when we take our eyes off Christ, he is their to take hold of us and bring us back up to him.
thanks everyone!!! these are some great thoughts for me to be thinking about, in addition to what all has been going on in my head…i especially like the thoughts on peter!!!
wow. fabulous insight.
if i had taken hold to begin with i wouldnt stumble. its always harder to get back up after a stumble. but He is so good, patient and gentle to continue scooping us up.
