stump removal

so last night i mowed the yard for the first time this year. and as i was mowing i noticed a spot in the yard had finally grown thick with grass. two or three years ago we lost a tree in an ice storm and we had the stump removed from the front yard. i thought for sure that grass was never going to grow in. i was constantly raking up the dirt, pulling weeds, and putting down more grass seed. now years later it finally looks nice.

in my life i had a stump that God had to remove a few years ago. it wasn’t exactly a smooth or pain free process because that tree of sin in my life had grown to be rather large. after it was removed there was still work that had to be done like keeping the small weeds of sin pulled. my life had to be “raked” and the soil turned upside down. fortunately God was patient with me and was faithful in the work that He was doing in my life.

this reminds me of a couple of verses in Philipians. first it reminds me of Phil. 1:6, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (NLT) God is not going to give up on me, but will continue the “good work” in me. it also reminds me of the second half of Phil. 2:12, “Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.”(NLT) i have to constantly be working as well, to keep the weeds out of my life and to make sure that I am obeying what God says in His Word.

next time i will take a look at life after stump removal…
